New Book:Embroidering the Everyday
Our connection to the ‘everyday’ things around us has played a big part in all our lives in the last year.as we have made changes to how we work and interact with each other. The unexpected restrictions provided the time for me to focus on my writing and am delighted to announce the release of my new book with Batsford publications 'Embroidering the Everyday', which will be coming out in September 2021
Working as a ‘nomad at home’, Cas invites us to re-examine the world and use the limitations sometimes imposed by geographic area or individual circumstances as a rich resource to develop ideas for mixed media textiles in a more thoughtful way. In her introduction, writer, Deena Beverley states:
We might not all share Cas’s irrepressible energy for gathering and utilizing every scrap of visual and actual material from our everyday lives to inform and use in our work, but we can all benefit from considering her approach and integrating it into our own practice.
The front cover image from Panni Kekkavva Rose, exhibited at Gypsy Maker 4 organised by the Romani Cultural and Arts Company in 2020. This piece will also be at the Festival of Quilts this year with Art Textiles Made in Britain.
My energy and general well-being has been up and down over the last year and as I pursued my writing there were times I struggled. I am grateful to the wonderful editorial team at Batsford whose quiet support and conviction encouraged me that to write this book. Equally, I am grateful to all the artists whose wonderful works have enriched the narrative, and to friends, family and followers of my work who have supported me on this journey.
Further information about the book and options for pre-ordering a copy can be found on the Batsford page link.
