Exhibition at Craft Town Scotland and Workshop with West Dean College

 I am excited to announce my exhibition  Places, Spaces, Traces opens at Craft Town Scotland on  31st  August -7th October 2023

This collaborative exhibition is an exploration of the concept of ‘place’ and our understanding of the importance of heritage; how our inherited traditions, monuments, objects, and culture can impact upon our identities and the space we call ‘home’.
I am, joined by selected members of the Scottish Potters Association, West Kilbride Primary School children, and the North Ayrshire based New Scots.

That this exhibition has been possible  has been down to the support  by the hanging team at the Barony Centre and to Fiona Doubleday, Faye Waterlow and Coral Smith for hanging the work.  The opening event is on the afternoon of Thursday 31st August. Please contact Craft Town Scotland for details

I am equally delighted to be running a course at West Dean College PERSONAL JOURNALS – SOURCING INSPIRATION FOR TEXTILES from 25-28th September. This is my only residential course this year.

Artists always make reference to other images and narrative. In this workshop you will look at developing ideas through creative journals and sketchbooks as a starting point for textile based work and design ideas. Using the images, patterns and textures found in the building and grounds of West Dean and/or from your own design source, you will start your own visual diary and look at creating sketches and design ideas in unconventional ways. These will be used as a base to start torn paper drawings and textile mixed-media processes to start evolving ideas for a piece of work.

This workshop offers a unique insight into the tutor’s approach to gathering ideas and resources from the world around you. It will reflect her own observations and working methods resulting from her artist’s residency at the College.

The journal and samples resulting from this creative exploration could be used as a starting point to your own creative practice for mixed media and textile-based work, in three-dimensions, books or collage.
